Baccarat Principles

Baccarat chemin de fer is enjoyed with eight decks of cards in a dealing shoe. Cards valued less than 10 are valued at their printed number while at the same time 10, J, Q, K are zero, and A is 1. Wagers are placed on the ‘banker’, the ‘player’, or for a tie (these are not actual people; they just represent the two hands to be dealt).

Two hands of two cards are then given to the ‘banker’ and ‘player’. The total for every hand is the sum of the cards, but the beginning number is dropped. e.g., a hand of five and 6 has a total of 1 (5 plus 6 equals 11; dump the first ‘1′).

A 3rd card might be given using the following rules:

- If the gambler or banker achieves a value of eight or nine, both players hold.

- If the gambler has less than 5, he takes a card. Players stands otherwise.

- If the player holds, the house takes a card on a total less than 5. If the gambler hits, a chart is employed to figure out if the bank stands or hits.
